TEMPORARY EXHIBITION TECHNICIAN(S)

Overview

Temporary Exhibition Technicians work under the supervision of the Production Manager to install lighting, electrical, and show materials for fine art and design exhibitions. These functions involve collaboration with the Production Manager, Fair Management, and exhibiting galleries and artists working on exhibition projects. Temporary Exhibition Technicians will have a variety of tasks and functions to perform, relating to all aspects of construction and installation of show lighting as well as any materials necessary for a successful show.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree in Studio Art, Art History, or Media and Performing Arts preferred. 


  • Experience working in a museum, gallery, or procession environment or related field including but not limited to: architecture, motion picture and television, theatre and performing arts preferred. 


  • Art handling and installation experience preferred. 


  • Good manual dexterity and visual acuity skills a must.


  • Must be able to stand for long periods.


  • Must be able to bend and reach to lift, move, and install aluminum truss lighting structure.


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.


  • Must demonstrate safe use of shop equipment including, but not limited to: 
aerial lifts, fork lifts, and various portable and stationary power tools.

  • Patient and positive can-do attitude a must. 


Essential Functions

  • Must be able to competently handle works of art with proper and safe procedures. We are willing to train the right person. 


  • Must be able to work on an elevated surface such as ladders, aerial lifts, or scaffolding.

  • Must be able to comfortably work with electrical components. We are willing to train the right person. 


  • Must be able to work well as a team member and relate to a wide variety of staff and non-production personnel 


  • Must be able to work in a precise and careful manner under stringent deadlines. 


  • Must display creativity in solving technical problems, and flexibility in adapting to unusual circumstances. 


  • Carpentry skills are a plus.

Physical Demands While performing the essential functions of this job, the incumbent must be able to do the following: stand for extended periods; bend and reach for installing lighting components and other job-related functions; climb up and down stairs and ladders; bend, stoop, and lift to move and retrieve materials; pull, push, and lift; reach both above and below shoulder height. Specific visual abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to visually inspect work. Manual dexterity to operate various portable and stationary tools. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an independent contractor to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
